Bachmann suggests Liberty University the greatest ‘in the history of the world’

Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann did a little pandering Wednesday during her visit to Jerry Falwell’s Liberty University.

“Is there any better university in the history of the world?” she asked the crowd of students, who she called “Christian warriors.”

“I think we all know it is awesome to be able to be here today… These are only the early days of what God has planned, not only for this university, but for each one of your lives as well.”

Bachmann delivered her remarks on why it was it was important not to settle.

One of those reasons, she said, was “the very best man that I know, my husband Marcus Bachmann.”

“And ladies and gentlemen, I challenge you. You can have it too! Don’t settle in that department either! Make sure you get God’s very best for you too. It’s worth it.”

Knowing she’s out it’s time to push for business for her husband’s fake company. The Koch Bros have made it clear a white male will be President even if that man is an idiot/ignorant and as dumb as a door knob.  Sarah has gotten the Koch Bros. memo to stay out.  Now the Micky Mouse member Gov. Christi is being asked to step in but it’s that criminal history he has that is holding him back.

It might be fair to assume that Winona State University probably isn’t very thrilled to have her as alumna of their institution anyway.

Well, Michelle, if your goal is to turn out little psychopaths and sociopaths in the name of your religion, then absolutely, it’s a great place. If your goal is to pollute your country with nonsense ideology that has NOTHING to do with reality, then yep, it’s the place for you. If your goal is to set up a country where people are too STUPID to know their own history, their own heritage, and to ignore the laws and intents of those laws, then yes, by all means, save up your money and go there.

But watch out, if you go there, you may end up JUST like Michelle Bachmann. You too can be a laughing stock to a country that has lost it’s sense of SANITY. And for crazy people to be laughing at you, that’s pretty bad.

Go home, Michelle. Stay there, please. Don’t darken our door any longer, and we will stop laughing hysterically at you every time you open that scary face of yours. Deal?

US News and World Report has a different take on Liberty U

4 year graduation rate – 34% (not good)

    Student/faculty ratio 27:1 (not good)

Frosh retention rate 74.5 (not good)

Percentage of students applying who were admitted 90% (terrible)

And a ranking of 80th among Regional Universities South (really terrible)

U S News & World Report has Liberty U ranked 80th best in the south, right ahead of Bellhaven U of Jackson,Mississippi, right behind Columbia International U of Columbia,SC. This is actually higher than I anticipated, but Ms Bachmann going around advertising herself as a graduate can’t be doing them any favors. I would heartily discourage anyone from enrolling in any of the school’s history programs.

I’d give it a minus 10. Religion has no place in an institution of higher learning. But then, there is NOTHING about Liberty university that says higher learning to me. It only says “serious indoctrination”.

Take away Bachmann’s cornball religious shtick and she’s got nothing.

“Is there any better university in the history of the world?”

The students in the audience understand that the reason they attend Liberty is because they are below average and could not qualify at a legitimate uinversity. Even so, one would expect them to be insulted by her shameless patronizing.

Yes, that’s a given. There are hundreds of colleges in the South that cater to below average students who have no business occupying classroom space except for the fact that their parents have $$. Many of the schools are little better than diploma mills, of which Liberty U. is one.

On the flip side, there are above average students who could qualify for the better schools but don’t attend because they lack the financial resources.

Right up there with Bob Jones University.  Where do graduates of these universities go when they graduate?  Do they find careers?  Who the hell would hire them?  Critical thinking skills have to be pretty low on the requirements to graduate list. eeww.  She clearly has not had a real liberal arts education.  “Christian warrior”?  I doubt Jesus would approve of that terminology.

  • Anonymous

The reality is that whether we like places like Liberty University, they teach a wide array of subjects like any university. And very few have any real connection to their fundamentalist religious and right-wing political ideology. So in those majors they do offer a good education with quality professors. The idea that all conservative Christians are idiots is a stupid idea in itself. This is about an ideology and not about intelligence. The Soviet Union had lots of intelligent people with good universities, all (or most) imbued with an ideology that has been shown to be unworkable and incorrect. The Left fools only itself if it assumes that Liberty, its students and staff and others like are simply stupid. They are not.

  • Anonymous

    Not stupid-debilitated.
If you don’t accept the Theory of natural selection for ideological reasons you will never be a top flight biologist no matter what your IQ might be-sorry.
You will not excel in cosmology and physics if you are continually required by your religious delusions to create and defend the idea of a ‘god’ outside of time and space.
You will never understand the foundations of the US constitution if you see it as an expression of christianity rather than the enlightenment-sorry.
You will never be honest nor ethical if you see christian dominionism as a worthy goal to be achieved at any cost-sorry.

  • Anonymous

Unfortunately a good many of them are hired by winger christo-fascist politicians.
Monica Goodling, the graduate of Pat Robertson’s Regent University law
school who played a major role in the Justice Department’s firing of
U.S. attorneys is just one example of hundreds.

  • Anonymous

“Our ‘god’ is an awesome god who can kick your god’s ass…yay team…”

  • Anonymous

Again as I wrote, many students don’t actually major in biology nor physics. There are a lot of university majors and subjects that either don’t touch on, or barely touch on their ideology. Also, Liberty is a large university in Appalachian Virginia (a couple hours from where I live) that attracts many students who are more interested in a university education than they are in the school’s ideology.

Sara Diamond has frequently noted how the secular left misunderstands the Christian Right, often due to a certain prejudice. Read some of the comments to this article and you will see a lot of bigotry. I, personally, disagree with Liberty and I would never go there, nor want my children to go there. But I can be honest enough to recognize that despite many problems they do in fact offer a quality education in many areas. It’s certainly nothing like Harvard, or even University of Virginia to name a more local school.

Bigotry, whether on the Right or the Left, is ugly.

“….The Left fools only itself if it assumes that Liberty, its students and staff and others like are simply stupid….”

You didn’t qualify that statement with ‘some of the left’ did you.
That you see bigotry in responses to Bachmann’s own obvious bias says more about you than us.

The christian taliban has been building a system of alternate education in the US since Reagan.
The aren’t doing it out of boredom but rather for very specific goals.
Many christian colleges require a statement of belief from professors and that means they are not getting first tier candidates.

    I think  you’re a concern troll.

  • Anonymous

Obviously, you don’t know what you are talking about! Bachmann is an idiot. So what! I don’t expect much from her. But I do tire of hearing/reading bigoted responses from ‘some’ people on the Left when the subject of religion comes up.

“Many christian colleges require a statement of belief from professors and that means they are not getting first tier candidates.”  This statement itself is rather revealing. There are lots of highly intelligent and good candidates who are Christians, even conservative Christians. This is also true of Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, Atheists, etc.

Perhaps you are troll writing so that people may assume that people on the Left lack intelligence.

  • Anonymous

    You are really tiresome.

“Obviously, you don’t know what you are talking about!”

(Yes-it’s so obvious you can’t even tell me why without getting completely muddled-as the rest of this post will demonstrate.)

     ”Bachmann is an
idiot. So what! I don’t expect much from her.”

(No bigotry there, eh? But somehow it’s a bad thing when others here do it? Did someone say ‘get over yourself’?)

     ”But I do tire of
hearing/reading bigoted responses from ‘some’ people on the Left when
the subject of religion comes up.”

(Religion debilitates people-I stand by my statement. If you answer every question with ‘god did it’ you have lost some portion of your human capacity for curiosity and exploration.)

    {{“Many christian colleges
require a statement of belief from professors and that means they are
    not getting first tier candidates.”}}

“  This statement itself is rather
revealing. There are lots of highly intelligent and good candidates who
are Christians, even conservative Christians. This is also true of
Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, Atheists, etc.”

(But what self respecting professorial candidate would bother with such requirements if they could land a job with a college that didn’t require it? Simple points seem to escape you.)

“Perhaps you are troll writing so that people may assume that people on the Left lack intelligence.”

(Perhaps you should stop pretending to be a leftie and admit you’re a pseudo con christer troll?
Oh-and for the record-bite me, you’re an idiot.)

  • Anonymous

Thank you for showing the obvious truth here. You are a bigot, therefore you cannot allow facts to get in the way of your bigotry against all thing religious.

“(But what self respecting professorial candidate would bother with such
requirements if they could land a job with a college that didn’t require
it? Simple points seem to escape you.)”  You simply show your bigotry! A Muslim professor would have no trouble with a Muslim statement of faith at a Muslim university. A Christian professor generally has little to no trouble with such statements either. So yes, self-respecting professors will chose to teach at Christian schools. Your bigotry doesn’t allow you to accept the fact that there are plenty of religious people who are far more intelligent and much less bigoted than you.

“(Religion debilitates people-I stand by my statement. If you answer
every question with ‘god did it’ you have lost some portion of your
human capacity for curiosity and exploration.)”  This over-generalization again reveals your bigotry. Your idiotic and bigoted assumption that religious people answer every question with “god did it” demonstrates your complete lack of objectivity and knowledge of the subject. It is a ludicrous statement. Most religious people have not lost their capacity for curiosity and exploration. To say that they have is simply stupid and ill-informed and ignorant of history. It reminds one of the sort of bigoted statements made about different ethnic groups.

AS for the troll business, perhaps you are too ignorant to realize that you can actually access the profile of those who comment and see what they have commented on and so forth. I wasn’t serious about you being a troll, I was tired of your sanctimonious bigotry. But for example, I see that you also post comments on AlterNet and Debunking Christianity (revealing).

And of course, when you have no real argument other than to figuratively shout bigoted statements, you resort to insults and false accusations. It figures.

  • Anonymous

Like most of what you have posted what seems ‘obvious’ to you is ridiculous to everyone else.

Any muslim who applied only to a muslim institution or christian who applied only to a christian institution would be either so devout/fanatical they wouldn’t want to do anything else or would be insecure/incompetent. You can try to spin it all you want.

Some religious people do indeed answer every question with ‘god did it’ right down to ‘god’ supposedly supplying nuclear force. It is common place among fundie christers-I have known many personally who do so. To the degree that a religious person does so, to that degree they have lost the driving forces of the true scientist. And if you don’t think christianity has stunted science in most of the 2,000 years of it’s existence it is you who should study a bit of history.

Awwww-did I hurt baby’s feelings enough to make you search my posting history?
I post on dozens of sites-so?
And you are tired of ‘my sanctimonious bigotry’? Really”?
    Hilarious you judgmental twit.

You were concern trolling and you know it- Deal.

  • Anonymous

So the bigot decided to respond again. Again with more bigotry. You are so wrapped up in your own bigotry that you can’t even see it. And since you have no real argument you recommence with the insults and false accusations, and of course repeated bigotry. I could care less about where you post! I was simply pointing out that it would be possible for you to find out that I post frequently on Raw Story: it is my principle source of news. Though your own bigotry would never allow you to see truth if contradicts your well-constructed ideology that prevents your from questioning your own ideas at all. Rest well in your bigotry, it’s all you have.
