On Tuesday night, the campaign for Republican nominee for president, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney released its smartphone app, a set of 14 photo banners that would allow users to decorate pictures of themselves with slogans like “I’m with Mitt.” Wednesday night on “The Colbert Report,” host Stephen Colbert devoted the second half of his “Tip of the hat, wag of the finger” segment to the fact that one of the banners misspelled the word “America” as “Amercia.”
Colbert congratulated the campaign on its brilliant strategy move, having their candidate run for president of two countries at once. (He’s bound to win one of them, right?) Also, this will give so-called “birthers” something to do, because no matter what, President Barack Obama almost certainly doesn’t have an Amercian birth certificate.
In honor of this new tactic, Colbert has rewritten the patriotic song “America the Beautiful” to include a brace of typos. It begins, “Oh, beatiful for spacous skies, for abmer weves of gairn…”
It’s lovely. It brought taers to our eeys here at Raw Story headquarters. God belss Amercia!
