Stephen Colbert and his bestseller

Thursday night on “The Colbert Report,” host Stephen Colbert took a moment to bask in the glory that comes from having a book sitting in the number one spot on two bestseller lists.  Colbert’s children’s book I am a Pole and So Can You is currently the New York Times‘s best-selling book in the “Advice, How-To and Miscellaneous,” as well as number two on Publisher’s Weekly‘s the “Bestsellers, Hardcover Nonfiction” category.

Colbert points out the as the second-to-top seller in Publisher’s Weekly, his book is outselling Rachel Maddow’s Drift, Bill O’Reilly’s Killing Lincoln and the made-up bestseller, Sean Hannity’s 30 Days to a Thicker Neck.

The only book outselling I am a Pole on the Publisher’s Weekly chart is Robert Caro’s The Passage of Power, the fourth volume from Caro’s biography of Lyndon Johnson, a scholarly work that took ten years to write.

Holding up a copy of I am a Pole, Colbert said, “This book took me ten minutes to write.  I’m winning.  I am winning.”
