Hayes: Romney prefers tattooing the unemployment rate ‘on his forehead’ to saying anything

MSNBC weekend host Chris Hayes explicitly explained Tuesday afternoon how Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney would prefer if he could to remain quiet and say nothing all the way to the November election.

On Now with Alex Wagner, Hayes was responding to Romney’s latest flip-flop, in which he denied earlier in the day that he never advocated for firing more teachers, firefighters, and teachers after doing so a few days ago.

“If Mitt Romney could get away with it, he would get the unemployment rate tattooed on his forehead, and every interview he would do, he would put tape over his mouth and sit there with a camera on the number,” Hayes said. “That’s a win for them, every second no one is focusing on them.”

Salon‘s writer Steve Korniacki added that the Romney campaign simply “was all about” finding angry voters and blaming President Barack Obama instead of emphasizing any of the former Massachusetts governor’s ideas. It’s a sentiment that is shared by Obama himself, who said Tuesday at a campaign event that the GOP platform could be contained in a single tweet, “and have some characters to spare”: “Things aren’t as good as they should be and it’s Obama’s fault.”

The latest Real Clear Politics poll shows Obama with a 47 to 45 percent lead over Romney.
