Reid blasts GOP over ‘wall of blind obstruction’

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) agrees with former Republican Florida Gov. Jeb Bush’s criticism of the modern-day Republican Party.

On Monday, Bush said Ronald Reagan and his father would be too moderate for the current GOP, which has “an orthodoxy that doesn’t allow for disagreement.” Reid said Tuesday that Bush was right.

“The Republican Party has no place for moderates any more,” he said during a press conference. “It belongs to the direction of the tea party.”

Democrats have repeatedly accused Republicans in Congress of obstructionism — and some have even accused the GOP of intentionally slowing down the economic recovery.

“Every bill we advance in the Senate, almost of all of which are based on bipartisan ideas and used to pass with overwhelming support, in a matter of minutes run into a wall of blind obstruction,” Reid added. “In today’s radicalized Republican Party, appeasing the tea party is more important than working together on common sense bipartisan jobs bills.”
