The 'GOP is getting torn apart' as members turn on leaders for not protecting Trump: report
January 24, 2021
According to a report from Axios, more than a few rank and file Republican lawmakers are furious with the GOP's leadership because they feel they did not protect ex-President Donald Trump to the bitter end.
As noted by Axios founders Mike Allen and Jim Vandehei, the past two months for the GOP's leadership has been "nightmarish" after losing both the White House and majority control of the Senate.
<p>At issue are worries about where the party goes without Trump and whether the GOP as a whole will be punished by the ex-president still angry over his election loss to now-President Joe Biden.</p><p>"Much of the party's base<strong> </strong>— including conservative talk radio, TV and social media — are spoiling to fight for Trump in exile," they wrote, adding, "On top of that<strong>,</strong> Trump himself is threatening to literally split the party in two with the creation of a new MAGA Party or Patriot Party."</p><p>According to former Trump campaign official Jason Miller, the former president won't forget who didn't support his bid to remain in office.</p><p><strong>"</strong>The president has made clear his goal is to win back the House and Senate for Republicans in 2022," Miller said before warning. "There's nothing that's actively being planned regarding an effort outside of that, but it's completely up to Republican senators if this is something that becomes more serious."</p><p>The Axios report adds, "Step into almost every<strong> </strong>Republican state or district, and most voters are livid that Republican leaders didn't fight more to overturn the election, resist impeachment, back Trump, punish House Conference Chair Liz Cheney and protest big business for blacklisting its members."</p><p>Noting the Republican squabbles breaking out across the country at the state level between pro-Trump lawmakers and Republicans who just want to move on, the report states mainstream conservatives are "too weak, timid and divided to prevail right now," adding, "This will be the new reality for Republicans until 2024, or Trump fully exits the scene."</p><p>You can <a href="https://www.axios.com/gop-trump-revolution-leadership-0647ff61-9abc-4798-a46e-9a7e8ea2c42e.html" target="_blank">read more here</a>. <br/></p>

'Unfairly vilified': Glenn Greenwald cries 'censorship' after getting NYT reporter 'fired' for Biden tweet
January 24, 2021
Free speech warrior Glenn Greenwald complained about "censorship" over the weekend after he was accused of triggering the firing of a New York Times reporter who tweeted about getting "chills" as Joe Biden was on route to becoming the 46th president.
According to reports on Twitter, the Times fired contract editor Lauren Wolfe after Greenwald complained about one of her tweets that seemed to suggest she was relieved that Biden was about to become the next president.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet">
Is <a href="https://twitter.com/ggreenwald?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@ggreenwald</a> a misogynistic asshole who got Lauren Wolfe fired? Or was it somebody else? You decide. <a href="https://t.co/pojSfZATwP">https://t.co/pojSfZATwP</a> <a href="https://t.co/rNneOZ0zop">pic.twitter.com/rNneOZ0zop</a><br/>

Greenwald later claimed that he disagreed with Wolfe's dismissal.

"Liberals — who spend half their day online attacking New York Times reporters for insufficient fealty to the Democratic Party (which is like criticizing Maddow for insufficient attention to Russia) — have promulgated a new rule for everyone else," he wrote.

In an interview on Fox News on Sunday, Greenwald complained about "censorship" of conservatives.
</p><p>
During the discussion, Fox News host Maria Bartiromo opined about a "major problem" of the media "trying to mislead the public."
</p><p>
"Big tech continues to snuff out free speech on its platforms," she warned, citing a recent poll.
</p><p>
"I think it's an incredibly important story that's receiving almost no attention," Greenwald said. "Because the people who should give attention are the ones that this poll says they are losing faith and trust. This is not a new sudden development. This has been taking place for years."
</p><p>
According to Greenwald, media "blame others who criticize their bad reporting as though they're being unfairly vilified."
</p><p>
"And when that doesn't work," he continued, "what they do now is a third response, which is trying to censor their critics and those who are actually inspiring trust by saying, 'Kick these people off the Internet, their audience is too big, censor these people, throw their platform off the Internet.'"
</p><p>
"They're now at the point where they're advocating censorship," Greenwald said.
</p><p>
"Unbelievable," Bartiromo agreed. "Let's not forget, <em>The Washington Post</em> and <em>The New York Times</em> won Pulitzers over their coverage of the Russia hoax! Right? So they don't want to give the mea culpa that, oh, wait, we were had."

Kevin McCarthy leveled by Maxine Waters for trying to spread blame for Trump's Capitol riot
January 24, 2021
Appearing on MSNBC's "The Sunday Show" with host Jonathan Capehart, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) slapped aside fellow California lawmaker Rep. Kevin McCarthy for trying to spread the blame to the whole country for the Capitol riot that claimed five lies.
An emphatic Waters told the host: "No way."
Asked about McCarthy " namechecking" her when he complained that Democrats are not helping "unify" the country, Waters fired right back.
"Well, first of all, let's identify what Kevin McCarthy has said twice before he started to name call me," Water began. "First he said he felt the president was responsible for the insurrection -- I think he said it twice. Also take a look at the fact that now that they're talking about unity after this destruction has taken place, and not only have they name-checked me, they said Cory Booker, they said Schumer, they said Pelosi."
"All of us now, everybody, he says, must take responsibility," she exclaimed, "No way. No way can that work. This man is one of the operatives of Trump. and he has done everything to support him throughout his four years in office. He's tried to back away from it, now he's trying to blame others for it. The fact of the matter is, this won't work -- it won't work. They cannot blame anybody else, the responsibility is squarely on the shoulders of the president."
