Palm Beach County rejects Donald Trump's dream of having an airport named after him
January 23, 2021
Former President Donald Trump has long dreamed of having his name attached to one of the United States' most prominent international airports. His suggestion: Trump International.
However, Palm Beach County has confirmed that the former president's dream will not be coming to fruition at its airport.
<p>According to the Sun-Sentinel, the idea of renaming the airport in honor of Trump was recently touted by Christian Ziegler, who serves as a Sarasota County commissioner and the vice-chairman of the Florida Republican Party. However, County Commissioner Melissa McKinlay has made it clear that she does not support the idea. </p><p>During a brief discussion with the publication, McKinlay explained why she, along with five other county commissioners, are not in agreement with the prospect of the airport being renamed after the twice-impeached, one-term president.</p><p>"When people hear [Palm Beach], they envision our beaches, our equestrian sports, and in some cases our agricultural contributions," McKinlay said. "It is a lifestyle." </p><p>McKinlay also noted that she believes the name Trump International is a name "better-suited for his golf courses, not our airport" as she suggested that Ziegler "stick to renaming his own county facilities, not ours."</p><p> The publication notes that Palm Beach County's swift rejection of the idea could be a foreboding of the difficulties Trump could face attempting to have his name displayed on buildings, schools, street signs, and highways in the Southern region of Florida, which is predominantly Democratic-leaning. </p><p>While many past presidents have had the honor of their names being attached to buildings, airports, schools, and roads, Robert Watson, a presidential historian and Lynn University professor, explained why Trump will likely face difficulties in his pursuit to be remembered in the same light as his predecessors. According to Watson, Trump's heightened attachment to controversy may be a major obstacle for this type of aspiration.</p><p>"I imagine in a couple of years when there's talk about renaming [things] for him — Trump could be the outlier, the anomaly, "Watson said. "He was so controversial. He generates such controversy that it's hard to imagine anyone wanting to touch it."</p>

Talk show host and occasional pal of Donald Trump, Piers Morgan stepped in it once again on Saturday morning after posting a tone-deaf tribute to the late Larry King -- who passed away this morning -- and managed to make it all about himself.
Morgan, who once hosted a show on CNN, noted the passing of the beloved King and wrote, "Larry King was a hero of mine until we fell out after I replaced him at CNN & he said my show was 'like watching your mother-in-law go over a cliff in your new Bentley.' (He married 8 times so a mother-in-law expert) But he was a brilliant broadcaster & masterful TV interviewer."
Critics of Morgan, of whom there are many, immediately noted he made about himself ("until we fell out after I replaced him at CNN") and proceeded to let him have it on Twitter.

Trump's 'disturbing' pardon of Kushner ally accused of stalking could put people in danger: columnist
January 23, 2021
On Saturday, writing for The Daily Beast, Elizabeth Spiers zeroed in on what she considers to be one of the most "disturbing" 11th-hour pardons by former President Donald Trump: former New York Observer editor-in-chief Ken Kurson, a family friend of Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner.
"Kurson, a longtime close friend of Jared Kushner's, had been arrested in October on charges of cyberstalking three people and harassing two in an elaborate revenge scheme to punish people he perceived as being responsible for the breakup of his marriage," reported Spiers, who held Kurson's job from 2011-2012. "Kurson, who has forcefully denied the allegations and had yet to go to trial, was one of the 74 people Donald Trump pardoned in the final hours of his presidency."
<p>Kurson was <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-edny/press-release/file/1330511/download" target="_blank">accused</a> of making false allegations of child molestation and infidelity against the victims under a number of pseudonyms like "Jayden Wagner" and "Eddie Train"; breaking into their social media accounts with a keystroke monitor, and taking pictures of the lobby of Mount Sinai Hospital, where one victim worked as a doctor, and making hangup calls from an internal phone system that would have required him to be inside a victims' building.</p><p>"When I first read about the charges, I was floored by the sheer amount of effort Kurson allegedly made to plot against and then pursue his victims on multiple fronts," wrote Spiers. "Then again, a lot of stalkers do this in part because it's easy to do. Anyone with an internet connection can conduct a campaign like this, and most people can do it without getting caught. Even if the perpetrators are caught, victims have very little recourse because cops and prosecutors are often ill-equipped to deal with activity of this nature, and sometimes dismissive when it's directed toward women."</p><p>A big problem with the Kurson pardon, noted Spiers, is that it gives him a green light to actively resume his behavior and put more people in danger.</p><p>Spiers continued, "On Wednesday, I spoke to Deborah Copaken" — who alleges sexual harassment by Kurson while he edited the Observer. "She ... spent inauguration day talking to two lawyers and a security expert wanting to know if she should be afraid, and asking for advice about what to do. She was waiting to hear back after emailing the FBI agent she had spoken with when Kurson was being investigated."</p><p>"Copaken hopes that being public about what she says Kurson did in the past might offer some protection if he acted the same way now," wrote Spiers. "That at least people would be more inclined to believe her. She says she's spoken since Kurson's pardon was announced to other women who allege that he harassed him, and that they have similar concerns."</p><p>You can read more <a href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/is-accused-stalker-and-kushner-family-friend-ken-kurson-donald-trumps-most-disturbing-pardon" target="_blank">here</a> (requires subscription).</p>
