Obama campaign responds to Bush ‘appeasement’ attack
The Obama campaign responded to a “smear” made by president Bush while he was giving a speech in Israel today. Bush said that Democrats favor a policy of “appeasement” saying that it compares to the appeasement of the Nazis and Hitler.
White House aides acknowledged to CNN that Bush’s attack was a reference to Obama’s willingness to meet with Iranian leaders. The Obama campaign says that it’s “sad” that President Bush would use the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Israel to launch a “false attack.” The campaign said that it’s time to end “the politics of fear.”
CNN’s Ed Henry noted that it’s unusual for Bush to get into the Presidential campaign and to do it in a speech overseas.
