Wolf Blitzer told Howard Kurtz that CNN's coverage of the lead up to the Iraq war was good but could have been better. Blitzer defended the network, saying that anti-war voices were given adequate airtime.
BLITZER: I think we were pretty strong. Certainly with hindsight we could have done an even better job. There were a lot of things missing in our coverage that obviously, you know, ex post facto, after the fact. Certainly, we raised the important questions. I can't tell you how many times we had Scott Ridder and Hans Blik and Mohammed Al-Baroudi from the International [Atomic Energy] Agency on my shows and other shows on CNN where they suggested they don't see the evidence of the weapons of mass destruction. They were not convinced. Could we have done a better job? Sure. Remember. We're a first draft of history, journalism. We can always look back and say we could have done this. Could have done that. On the whole, though, I think we asked the tough questions but we could have done better."
