While some Republicans continue to present their own version of events regarding the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, the body cam video taken by police that day doesn't lie, columnist Charles Pierce wrote in Esquire this Tuesday.
Pierce points out that his insistence on the importance of body cam evidence is in no way meant to undermine the testimony given before the Select Committee investigating the Capitol riot by the officers who'd been invited to appear. But the video back up their testimony of the "nightmarish moments" that took place that day.
Now, Piece writes, Trump must testify before the commission.
"He has to be asked the tough questions, in some public forum, under oath. He has to be forced to watch the body-cam videos and to comment on them," Pierce writes.
"The rest of them, too, of course—the little attendant rats, some of whom got hilariously run out of their own press conference on Tuesday as the officers were testifying elsewhere on Capitol Hill," he continues.
"...Donald Trump has to be forced to confront what he did, and what he continues to do, to the country for which he does not give the smallest damn."

Profanity-screaming anti-masker tells high school student she doesn’t care her family members died of COVID-19
This week, following the Central Bucks School District in Bucks County, Pennsylvania declining to mandate masks for kids ages 12 and below, a group of concerned students, parents, and health professionals gathered to protest and demand better COVID-19 safety measures in line with CDC recommendations — only to be met with anti-mask counter-protesters screaming "lies, "child abuse," and "my kids can't breathe."
Paree Pasi, an incoming junior student in the Central Bucks School District who lives with two immunocompromised grandparents, spoke during the event on Tuesday night.
"Masking for ages 12 and below should be mandatory," she said, only to be drowned out with boos and cries of "go away." One woman shouted, "Bullsh*t, it doesn't even match the science. Bullsh*t!"
"Say that to my parents who have died," the student replied. "I don't give a sh*t!" the woman screamed back.
According to WHYY, Pasi "lost a number of family members in India from COVID-19."
The rise of the Delta variant of COVID-19, combined with continued resistance to vaccination in certain parts of the country, is threatening to trigger a new wave of infections just as schools prepare to resume full in-person learning — a situation made more complicated by the fact that younger children still haven't been approved for vaccination in the first place.
Piers Morgan suggests Simone Biles is 'pathetic, gutless, cowardly' for quitting Olympics over health
Television personality Piers Morgan on Wednesday lashed out at gymnast Simone Biles because she received sympathy from the public after she withdrew from the Olympic all-around due to health reasons.
In a Tweet on Wednesday, Morgan compared Biles' decision to the time he stormed off of Good Morning Britain after a co-host accused him of having an obsession with Meghan Markle.
"Are 'mental health issues' now the go-to excuse for any poor performance in elite sport? What a joke," Morgan wrote on Twitter. "Just admit you did badly, made mistakes, and will strive to do better next time. Kids need strong role models not this nonsense."
"Twitter when I walked off GMB because I was a bit stressed out: 'YOU'RE A PATHETIC, GUTLESS, COWARDLY, WEAK, SHAMEFUL FAILURE! MAN UP!'" he later added. "Twitter when their favourite athletes quit because they're a bit stressed out: 'YOU'RE A BRAVE INSPIRING, ICONIC HERO!'"
Twitter commenters slammed Morgan for the comparison.
"Piers, hate to break it to you, but Presenting a Morning TV show and performing in the Olympic Finals are different things," one person explained.
"One situation describes arguing with a weather man and another is pushing your body and mind to physical limits in order to be the best in the world," another commenter agreed.
"Comparing yourself to an Olympian… shameless just shameless Piers!" one response said.
Sorry Simone Biles, but there's nothing heroic or brave about quitting because you're not having 'fun' – you let down your team-mates, your fans and your country.https://t.co/gxNC7kOMN2 pic.twitter.com/eIlZsqqRHo
