CBS' Steve Kroft spoke to Obama's closest advisors soon after their victory. Chief strategist David Axelrod, campaign manager David Plouffe, press secretary Robert Gibbs, media and communication strategist Anita Dunn all say that Obama was clear about what he wanted to say from the beginning the campaign. David Plouffe said the fact that Obama is black wasn't a factor for the team and there were no meetings to create strategy to deal with the subject of race.
Kroft note that there were few leaks and no visible infighting within the campaign. Even the Republicans were in awe of their message discipline.
