GOP's Ron Johnson delivers a jumbled response after being asked about his Capitol riot conspiracy
March 01, 2021
In an interview with The New York Times released on Monday, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) was questioned about sharing a conspiracy theory during a Senate hearing that the Capitol insurrection was driven by "provocateurs" infiltrating the otherwise "festive" group of pro-Trump protesters — a claim originally pushed by Michael Waller for the far-right website The Federalist.
"I wonder why you think there is merit to giving an audience to Mr. Waller's assertions that there were either provocateurs or fake Trump supporters in the crowd, given the lack of evidence," said Reid Epstein.
<p>"I'm not questioning his veracity. I believe he's probably telling the truth. That's what he saw," said Johnson. "I'm not agreeing with any conclusions. I'm not sure he's really making too many conclusions, other than he concluded he saw four individual types of groups that stood out from the crowd. It might be a flawed part of the evidence, but why exclude it? Just because it doesn't necessarily tie into whatever narrative somebody else wants to tell about the day? I'm not interested in the narratives, I'm interested in the truth."<br/></p><p>There is zero evidence to support the claim that anti-Trump provocateurs were the source of the violence at the Capitol.</p><p>Johnson also defended his claim that the gathering "didn't seem like an armed insurrection" — a statement PolitiFact <a href="It%20might%20be%20a%20flawed%20part%20of%20the%20evidence,%20but%20why%20exclude%20it?%20Just%20because%20it%20doesn%E2%80%99t%20necessarily%20tie%20into%20whatever%20narrative%20somebody%20else%20wants%20to%20tell%20about%20the%20day?%20I%E2%80%99m%20not%20interested%20in%20the%20narratives,%20I%E2%80%99m%20interested%20in%20the%20truth." target="_blank">rated</a> "Pants on Fire" — by arguing that none of the rioters fired their weapons. This does not change the fact that the protesters had <a href="https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-protest-cases-insight/arrested-capitol-rioters-had-guns-and-bombs-everyday-careers-and-olympic-medals-idUSKBN29J2V8" target="_blank">guns and improvised explosive devices</a>, and that a number of them were <a href="https://thehill.com/regulation/court-battles/534329-police-seized-alarming-number-of-weapons-on-capitol-rioters-court" target="_blank">arrested on gun charges</a> and had their weapons confiscated.</p>

QAnon supporters think Biden is a robot who wears a face mask to cover up his malfunctioning mouth: CNN
March 01, 2021
A group of former QAnon believers told CNN host Alisyn Camerota that many of their former allies actually believe President Joe Biden is a robot.
While speaking with Camerota, the former Q acolytes said they now regret believing absolutely crazy conspiracy theories, and are sad to still see friends and family members who have been sucked into an alternate reality in which former President Donald Trump will be sworn back in as president later this week.
<p>
Former QAnon believer Ashley Vanderbilt told CNN that one particularly strange conspiracy theory that's recently gained traction in the community has to do with Biden not being a real person.
</p><p>
"The person that I started talking to... that had initially got me into QAnon, he was like, 'You know, Joe Biden's not even real," she said. "That's why he's wearing a mask all the time, because the fake face that he's wearing, the mouth doesn't move correctly when he talks. Yeah, so they really believe that Joe Biden is not even Joe Biden."
</p><p>
Charlotte Rozich, who has family members who believe in QAnon, similarly told Camerota that many Q conspiracy theorists don't believe Biden is actually the president and that the "White House" he's staying in is actually an elaborate set piece presumably concocted by the Deep State.
