Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced his support for the public health insurance option Monday. "I have concluded, with the support of the White House, Senators Dodd and Baucus, that the best way to move forward is to include a public option with the opt out provision for states. Under this concept, states will be able to determine whether the public option works well for them and will have the ability to opt out if they so choose," said Reid.
Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe supported the health care reform bill that emerged from the Senate Finance Committee but has said that she doesn't support a bill with an opt-out provision for the public option. Reid hopes Snowe will come around to his point of view.
