Kevin McCarthy destroyed for threatening Maxine Waters with censure: 'She didn't incite an insurrection'
April 19, 2021
House Republican Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is under fire after threatening U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), the chair of the Financial Services Committee, with censure and claiming she “broke the law.” Waters is being used by the right as a straw man after she traveled to Minnesota to speak with Black Lives Matter protestors and telling them they must continue confrontations.
“We've got to stay on the street and we've got to get more active, we've got to get more confrontational. We've got to make sure that they know that we mean business," Waters said on Saturday as activists protested the killing of 20-year old Daunte Wright by a Brooklyn Center police officer.
Waters on Monday clarified her remarks after right wing uproar.
“I talk about confronting the justice system, confronting the policing that's going on, I'm talking about speaking up. I'm talking about legislation. I'm talking about elected officials doing what needs to be done to control their budgets and to pass legislation."
But McCarthy and his far right wing extremists, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, went on the attack, with Greene saying she wanted to expel Waters.
“This weekend in Minnesota, Maxine Waters broke the law by violating curfew and then incited violence,” McCarthy falsely claimed. “Speaker Pelosi is ignoring Waters' behavior—that's why I am introducing a resolution to censure Rep. Waters for these dangerous comments.”
McCarthy’s motion is being seen as pure partisan politics and fundraising fodder. Social media users were furious.
Hi congressman. Anything on censuring your members for trying to create a white nationalist caucus? Or what about Matt Gaetz, given the very serious investigation relating to him? He’s still on Judiciary, right? https://t.co/N00yPmJqEO

She didn't incite or support an insurrection or try to overturn the results of a valid election like you and many members of your caucus did. Nor did she storm the capital. Nor did she kill Americans by disparaging and undermining basic public health measures like wearing masks.

Didn't Matt from Florida travel all the way to Liz Cheney's home state to degrade his colleague? Hmmm

Insurrection-excuser and MAGA riot enabler Kevin McCarthy proposing to censure Maxine Waters is laughable.

Roger Stone slammed by legal writer for trying to blame his tax delinquency on the 'Deep State'
April 19, 2021
On Monday, writing for Above the Law, legal writer Elizabeth Dye blasted longtime Trump ally Roger Stone's excuse for allegedly trying to dodge his taxes.
Stone, who was previously pardoned by Trump after being convicted of a number of charges in connection with the Mueller investigation, has been quick to blame the whole thing on a left-wing "Deep State" conspiracy.
"On Friday, the government sued Roger Stone and his wife Nydia in the Southern District of Florida claiming almost $2 million dollars in unpaid taxes and penalties, a suit which Stone was quick to characterize as harassment by evil Deep State Democrats," wrote Dye. "'This is yet another example of the Democrats weaponizing the Justice Department in violation of the rule of law,' Stone said Friday night. 'I will fight these politically motivated charges and I will prevail again.' Which is a bit confusing, since the last time he 'prevailed' by getting a presidential pardon after being convicted by a jury of his peers."
The other reason it's hard to take Stone seriously, noted Dye, is that Stone has already admitted to the tax liabilities he's being sued over.
"In May of 2017, he entered into an agreement with the IRS to start chipping away at $1.5 million in unpaid taxes through monthly payments of $19,485," wrote Dye. "It was only after he got indicted in 2019 for lying to Congress that he quit paying. That was right about the time he 'sold' his personal residence to a family trust. Only the family trust had no assets, so it needed an infusion of cash from an LLC of which Stone, his wife, and his son were the only members and which the family used as a clearinghouse for personal bills."
This arrangement, according to the IRS, was a "sham transaction" to "shield their personal income from enforced collection and fund a lavish lifestyle."
"In the end, Stone got a full pardon in December of 2020 for all his convictions," wrote Dye. "But his old buddy Donald Trump failed to do anything about the tax case, so now the OG ratf*cker may be SOL. You love to see it."

Biden to propose $1 trillion for child care and pre-K in new 'American Families Plan': report
April 19, 2021
The Biden administration appears to be planning to go big with investments in American families with his next major legislative push.
"White House officials are closing in on a large spending plan centered on childcare, paid family leave, and other domestic priorities, according to two people aware of internal discussions. The package could amount to at least $1 trillion of new spending and tax credits, though details remain fluid," The Washington Post reported Monday. "The 'American Families Plan,' the second part of the administration's 'Build Back Better' agenda, is expected to be unveiled ahead of President Biden's joint address to Congress on April 28, the people said. It follows the approximately $2 trillion jobs and infrastructure plan the White House introduced earlier this month that is just beginning to be debated by Congress."
"While details remained in flux, the White House's newest plan is expected to call for roughly $1 trillion in new spending and approximately $500 billion in new tax credits, according to the people aware of the internal discussions. The people spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private deliberations," the newspaper reported. "The measure is expected to be largely if not fully paid for with new tax hikes centered on upper-income Americans and wealthy investors, the people said. The details of those tax measures remained unclear."
The newspaper reported. "The plan is expected to devote hundreds of billions of dollars to new programs that Biden highlighted during the presidential campaign and are highly sought by Democrats in Congress. While final numbers had not been determined, the largest efforts are expected to center on roughly $225 billion for childcare funding; $225 billion for paid family and medical leave; $200 billion for universal pre-kindergarten instruction; hundreds of billions in education funding, including tuition-free community colleges across the country; and other sums for nutritional assistance, the people familiar with the matter said."
