Whoopi Goldberg wants Republicans to 'cop to what’s wrong' in the party and explain their bad behavior
June 06, 2023
With the entrance of former Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) in the Republican Party primary, The View hosts were reminded of conversations about Gov. Chris Sununu (R-NH), who announced this week he is not running.
Alyssa Farah Griffin focused on how amazing someone like Sununu would be for the Republican Party, but there was no way that he would make it through a Republican primary. Donald Trump, by contrast, can sweep a Republican primary and then be destroyed in the general election.
"Donald Trump is a loser. He lost the midterms, lost 2020. He's a drag on the Republican ticket," she said. "This is what frustrates me about my party right now."
She brought up Georgia, noting that the state was once a Republican stronghold, but now it's clear that Trump's candidates will lose there.
"Are we going to be right-wing, culture wars and going after drag queens, or do we believe in free speech, free markets, and free minds?" she asked. "And we're going to see it play out. Sadly the Trump side is winning right now, but I'm excited that Larry Hogan, and Chris Christie are going to fight for the Republican Party I believed in and have been a member of my whole life."
Sara Haines noted that the Republican Party has effectively been hijacked by the anti-LGBT, anti-choice community and that it's going beyond culture wars with the party genuinely trying to hurt people. It's something that Griffin explained is hurting a lot of people and their allies.
"That has been the case for more than eight years," Goldberg said. "This is the problem. This is the problem. [Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC)] was interesting. I enjoyed having him in our time yesterday. I thought it was really kind of nice with Tim Scott. A good conversation. But you know, I want Republicans to cop to what is wrong. To me, that's really important. You have to cop — every time you pretend there's no issue, you lose me. You will never get me. See, you can get me if you could explain some of your behavior."
Sunny Hostin said she doesn't think that they can.
"I agree with you, you have to make up strawmen, a boogie man, underneath the bed when you have no policy, when you have no program and no real vision for this country," she said.
Joy Behar noted that Sean Hannity is refusing to put Chris Christie on his show, and she said that is likely because he is a threat against Trump.

'He'll do everything he can to keep Chris Christie off the debate stage': Ex gov says Trump terrified of former ally
June 06, 2023
Chris Christie will enter the 2024 Republican presidential primary – and he may be one opponent Donald Trump doesn't want to face in a debate.
The former New Jersey governor is expected to formally announce Tuesday that he's entering an increasingly crowded GOP primary, and Christine Todd Whitman -- another Republican former governor of that state -- told MSNBC she supported the move.
"He has nothing to lose by getting in it," said Whitman, who has since left the GOP to form the centrist Forward Party. "He raises his profile nationally, which is nowhere as you can see from that poll right now. He enjoys the battle and can certainly compete with Trump.
"The problem for him is to get on the debate stage. He's got a record to run on, good and bad, people will look at that, but his numbers right now are not in a place I'd think it's going to be highly probable that he gets on the debate stage. He's done a lot of analysis and figures that it's worth his while to do this."
Whitman conceded that a crowded field benefited Trump, but she said the former president may not want to face off with a candidate who famously helped him prepare for 2020 debates against President Joe Biden.
'I think with all the candidates in there, in fact they might make it easier for Donald Trump to win," she said. "Of course, getting on the debate stage, one thing Donald Trump absolutely commands is the internal political working of the national committee and the apparatus. He'll do everything he can to keep Chris Christie off the debate stage."

Iowa teen solicits parody 'Hit Man' website to assassinate 7-year-old -- and gets promptly arrested
June 06, 2023
A 17-year-old girl in Iowa has been arrested after she contacted a parody "Hit Man" website with an apparently sincere attempt to have a 7-year-old child assassinated.
Local news station KCCI reports that police in Storm Lake, Iowa were contacted late last week by the owner of the "Rent-a-Hitman" parody website after they received a request to take out a child that included detailed information on their address and appearance.
Police proceeded to call up the teen girl who made the request while posing as a prospective assassin, and police subsequently determined she was serious enough about having the 7-year-old killed to warrant taking her into custody.
CBS News reports that police subsequently searched the teen girl's phone and deemed her threat to have the child killed as credible.

The teenager has since been slapped with a felony charge of solicitation to commit murder.
Neither the targeted child nor their family were harmed in any way by the teen's assassination plot, police said.
