'A huge letdown': Mike Lindell's social media site launches -- and his fans are not happy
April 16, 2021
After telling people that his new social media platform would be launching this Friday, MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell left a few people scratching their heads when the platform failed to appear online, Newsweek reports.
"I expected a VIP launch midnight Thursday but nothing. What's up?" one Telegram user wrote.
"It seems the site did not go live the way it was supposed to. Not sure what the issue is but it is a huge letdown that's for sure. After all the hype," another person person wrote.
"No communication, no text....no one knows what is going on. Doesn't feel good," wrote another.
Newsweek reached out to Lindell, but hasn't heard back. The reason for the platform failing to launch is unclear.
Earlier this week, Lindell appeared on Eric Metaxas' radio program and touted the platform, which he claimed will be a bastion of free speech — except for a few examples of speech that won't be allowed. Lindell said that his "Frank Speech" platform will not allow users to swear or use the Lord's name in vain because it will be "a Judeo-Christian platform" founded on biblical principles.
"You're not going to be able to swear," Lindell said. "There will be four words for sure you can't say: You can't say the C-word, the N-word, the F-word, and you can't use God's name in vain. What a concept. Right?"

'I will never forgive them': Lawmakers, reporters and police remain traumatized by Capitol riots 100 days later
April 16, 2021
The U.S. Capitol insurrection was 100 days ago, and those who lived through the assault on democracy are still processing the trauma they experienced.
Lawmakers, staffers, police officers, reporters and Capitol employees recalled the fear and anger they felt as Donald Trump's supporters violently stormed into the building in an effort to overturn the former president's election loss, and they continue to struggle with the memories from that day.
"They destroyed things here, broke windows, you know, a mess, but things don't matter to me," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told NBC's Frank Thorpe V. "But seeing the dramatic effect it had on my staff is something that will live with me forever, and for which I will never forgive them."
"They failed," she added. "They failed in stopping the certification of a president of the United States, and they did so because members had the courage to come back."
Capitol police officers lost one of their own that day, and two others took their own lives in the days that followed, but they want Americans to remember that they succeeded in protecting lawmakers and democracy.
"We didn't fail," said Officer Anthony Booth. "We protected every member of Congress, not one member of Congress was hurt with a scratch that day … We protected every staffer that was in here, everybody was accounted for, nobody was hurt. The only casualties we had were obviously officers, but at the end of the day, we did our job."
Many others remain angry about the attempt to subvert democracy, which was encouraged by Trump and some of his Republican congressional allies.

Proud Boy charged with pepper spraying Capitol cops catches COVID-19 in jail: attorney
April 16, 2021
A member of the Proud Boys who has been charged with pepper spraying a line of Capitol Police officers during the January 6th MAGA riots has contracted the novel coronavirus while in jail.
Politico reports that Proud Boy Christopher Worrell's attorney this week filed a brief arguing his client should be freed from pretrial detention after he came down with COVID-19.
Attorney Allen Orenberg argues that Worrell is particularly vulnerable to COVID-19 due to his compromised immune system that has resulted from recent treatment for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
"Given the pandemic and acute danger to Mr. Worrell, his continued detention amounts to impermissible pretrial punishment," Orenberg wrote. "The Government's interest in securing his appearance at trial does not outweigh his liberty interest in remaining alive and free from harm."
However, Judge Beryl Howell, the Chief United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, has questioned whether Worrell's risk from COVID-19 is as acute as he claims, as she noted that he attended the January 6th riots without wearing a mask at a time when the virus was spreading throughout the country like wildfire.
