Pence begged Pentagon to ‘clear the Capitol’ as he hunkered down during insurrection: report
April 10, 2021
On Saturday, the Associated Press revealed new details about the role of former Vice President Mike Pence in trying to contain the Capitol riot on January 6.
"From a secure room in the Capitol on Jan. 6, as rioters pummeled police and vandalized the building, Vice President Mike Pence tried to assert control. In an urgent phone call to the acting defense secretary, he issued a startling demand," said the report. "'Clear the Capitol,' Pence said."

"At 4:08 p.m. on Jan. 6, as the rioters roamed the Capitol and after they had menacingly called out for Pelosi, D-Calif., and yelled for Pence to be hanged, the vice president was in a secure location, phoning Christopher Miller, the acting defense secretary, and demanding answers," said the report. "Pence's call to Miller lasted only a minute. Pence said the Capitol was not secure and he asked military leaders for a deadline for securing the building, according to the document. By this point it had already been two hours since the mob overwhelmed Capitol Police unprepared for an insurrection."

Former President Donald Trump had by this point fallen out with Pence, furious that he was unable to overturn the results of the 2020 election. Other reports indicated that Trump himself was reluctant to allow the National Guard to respond to the invasion.

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), who seems to spend her days tweeting out glib comments instead of doing her job and representing voters in her district, was slammed on Twitter Saturday afternoon for tweeting about Vice President Kamala Harris, referring to America's first Black vice president as simply "Kamala."
Critics of the controversial lawmaker were quick to call her out with one calling Boebert's tweet "incoherent" and others wondering if the GOP lawmaker couldn't seem to bring herself to address the VP by her title or last name since she is a woman of color.

According to Boebert, "Kamala has been 'in charge' of the border over two weeks and has yet to visit. Leadership is action."

That set off her critics as you can see below:

@laurenboebert It's interesting that you, and some of your colleagues, insist on first-naming VP while affording la… https://t.co/qPkzsmHO5o
— yazikus (@yazikus)1618074486.0

@laurenboebert @All435Reps That’s @VP Harris to you, Lauren. Southern California community plunged into turmoil after popular teacher filmed at Capitol riot
April 10, 2021
On Saturday, The New York Times reported on the fallout from Kristine Hostetter, a "beloved" fourth-grade teacher from San Clemente, California, marching on the Capitol with the pro-Trump rioters — and how it has torn apart her community.
"How close Ms. Hostetter got to the building remains an open question. But Mr. Hostetter and Mr. Taylor appear to have made it to the terrace on the west side of the building, and posted images of themselves a short distance from where a mob was battling the police," reported Matthew Rosenberg. The trip, according to the report, was sponsored by the American Phoenix Project, an extreme-right group her QAnon-supporting husband had joined.

"First, a student group organized a petition demanding the school district investigate whether Ms. Hostetter, 54, had taken part in the attack on the Capitol, and whether her politics had crept into her teaching. Then, when the district complied and suspended her, a group of parents put up a counter petition," said the report. "If the district starts disciplinary action based on people's beliefs/politics, what's next? Religious discrimination?' it warned."

The two competing petitions triggered an explosion of arguments in San Clemente that led to neighbors turning on each other.

"Each petition attracted thousands of signatures, and San Clemente has spent the months since embroiled in the divisive politics of post-Trump America, wrestling with uncomfortable questions about the limits of free speech and whether Ms. Hostetter and those who share her views should be written off as conspiracy theorists and racists who have no place in public life, not to mention shaping young minds in a classroom," continued the report. "Neighbors have taken to monitoring one another's social media posts; some have infiltrated private Facebook groups to figure out who is with them and who is not — and they have the screenshots to prove it. Even the local yoga community, where Ms. Hostetter's husband was a fixture, has found itself divided."

Unlike many other stories of Capitol rioters exposed within their communities, this story did not end with Hostetter losing her job or her freedom.

"Ms. Hostetter is back in the classroom. The district reinstated her last month after its investigation found she had done nothing more than protest peacefully in Washington," said the report. "But for many people, nothing has been resolved."

You can read more here.
