Political debates based on arguments and reasoning are becoming passé in modern day America. These days, activists on the left, right, inbetween, and on the fringe can’t seem to mount an argument that doesn’t include some kind of fearmongering suggesting that the other side is not only wrong, but that they’re violent and are ready to kill you.
“Americans for Legal Immigration PAC is releasing a video clip today that shows an illegal alien supporter in Arizona claiming that shovels and axes will be used against Americans just prior to the riot, where police officers and American citizens were assaulted by the mob protesting SB 1070,” a press release sent to RAW STORY reads.
In the following video posted to YouTube, an unidentified woman carrying a sign that reads can be heard shouting, “We will not stop! We will take up our shovels and pickaxes that we break your land and do your landscaping and clean your toilets and our plungers and we…we will use them against you! Believe that!”
Not satisfied with just the one woman who made the threat, the anti-illegal immigration PAC titled their video “Illegal Alien Supporters in Arizona Say They Will Murder Americans With Axes.”
The press release continues:
Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC) is circulating this video to the nation via national press release today. The video is also being sent to ALIPAC’s 30,000 national supporters for comment and circulation, with encouragements for activists to send copies to state and federal lawmakers.
ALIPAC is also issuing an advisory to law enforcement agencies across America in anticipation of the May 1st illegal alien protests scheduled nationally by Congressman Luis Gutierrez and the National Council of La Raza (The Race).
“We just want to make sure that our police agencies in these towns and cities where similar groups of angry illegal alien supporters plan to gather on May 1, are fully and properly informed,” said William Gheen of ALIPAC. “We are asking our supporters to make sure their local police are aware of the riots, assaults on police, assaults on Americans, and murderous slogans advocating armed rebellion documented in this video, as well as others coming out of Arizona.”
A note at the bottom adds, “This youtube video is our political interpretation of footage filmed in Phoenix on April 23 by Dave Seibert of AZ Central.”
Interestingly enough, a blog post at AZ Central has an “old school” take on the protest, as The Arizona Republic’s Deirdre Hamill relates:
Assignments like these can be the most difficult to cover and to write about without prejudice or editorializing. But here goes. The main object of this assignment was to cover a news event with 1,000 or so tax-day protestors; Maricopa County Sherrif Joe Arpaio was the main speaker. Participants addressed me: “Why are YOU here?†… “You evil bleeding heart liberal,” etc. I said that I was here to cover the news, that no matter what my opinion, I record what I see. “The only reason YOU’RE here is to make US look badâ€Â. No, I explained, “We cover both sides with neutrality so the reader has the choice of which side to believe or agree with.”
This photo was taken during an exchange between a Tea Party member and a young man who was against the movement and argued over the now passed immigration bill. As I was taking the picture, the young man started laughing.
In the end, everyone agreed that the reason this country is great is because of these kind of verbal exchanges. In some countries, everyone including me would have been jailed or killed. Instead, we all got to go home.
At Big Government, Andrew Marcus fears “America’s progressive-anarchist tea party.”
This is what the real Tea Party is up against. Do the Tea Party Patriots have what it takes to go up against this unified Socialist-Progressive-Anarchy front? The Jury is still out on that one. Most Tea Partiers have no clue about the forces arrayed against them, and it is pretty hard to best an adversary you don’t fully understand.
Further, just take a look at the differences between the crowds in this movement. One crowd looks old and soft and the other crowd looks young and hard. To illustrate the point, let’s play a little game called, “Name That Tea Party.†The rules are very simple. Just take a look at the following image pairs and guess which Tea Party they fall under, the Conservative/Libertarian Tea Party, or the Socialist Anarchy Tea Party:
Meanwhile, a Buzzflash alert warns “Gun Nut Political Gathering Organized in PA to Shoot Up Cars Representing “Liberal Ideas”: Next It’s Us.”
BuzzFlash has for ten years, and in recently ramped up commentary, warned of the violent right that is emerging in full force as a seditious domestic terrorist force. Most recently we posted an editor’s blog, “Insurrection on the Potomac: The Gun Guys Go Seditious,” which represents the view point that the right wing echo chamber talk of insurrection and talk of violence is to be taken as seriously as Al-Qaeda.So it’s not surprising to read about a gun guy/Tea Party idea crossover event to be held in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, by the ironically named “Commonwealth Foundation.”Nate Benefield, spokesman for the LiveFreePA “liberal idea” shoot down, explained:
Each candidate will speak and then take aim at the “junker” representing policy ideas such gun control, property tax, cap and trade, government-run health care, taxes and regulations on items such as tobacco and alcohol, Benefield said.
“It’s just a unique way to say we’re against these policies  shooting them down,” he said of the idea this year to fire off bullets or shoot arrows at a vehicle. “I don’t really know where we came up with it, but it seemed appropriate.”
Also on hand for firing will be a cannon provided by the U.S. Armament Corps.
Maybe it sounds like a day of “fun” in Lancaster, but if they were Arabs, you can be sure the event would be closed down by a SWAT team and the Arab organizers arrested.
And as the conservative American Thinker blog notes, “After accusing the Tea Party of being racist, sexist, homophobic, stupid, fake, and violent Timothy McVeigh prototypes, you’d think that the well of insults would be getting dry. In his Boston Globe column ‘Screaming Extremism,’ Neal Gabler, however, manages to find a new one: The Tea Party is like al-Qaeda. His comparison reveals the left’s upside-down vision of both the Tea Party and the threat of terrorism.”
The Boston Globe’s Gabler wrote, “To assure yourself of attention, you have to do something so startling that you effectively stop the conversation altogether. In effect, you have to blow up the World Trade Center, or paint the streets in human blood as protesters in Thailand recently did, or threaten lawmakers and even spit on them as the Tea Partiers did, or call President Obama a traitor or a Hitler. You have to be an extremist.”
America Thinker’s Peter Wilson notes, “Australian philosophy professor Robert Young reports in his essay “Political Terrorism as a Weapon of the Politically Powerless”:
Such defenses of terrorism as there are often begin from the contention that, in at least some circumstances where it is not possible for those with a serious grievance to get the political powers-that-be to give them even a hearing, terrorism may be the only remaining resort.”
