Stewart: NPR brought a tote bag to a knife fight with Fox
Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show is in Washington DC for the week leading up to his “Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear.”
But Monday night’s broadcast was overshadowed by the recent news that longtime analyst Juan Williams was fired by NPR for comments he made on Fox News about Muslims.
Williams had told Bill O’Reilly that he got nervous when he saw Muslims getting on a plane. He said, “When I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous.”
“That’s it?” asked Stewart. “That’s what got him fired?”
“Yes, it was a direct violation of NPR’s ‘never say anything interesting’ policy,” joked Samantha Bee.
“Are you kidding me, NPR? You’re picking a fight with Fox News? They gave Juan Williams a $2 million contract just for you firing him!” exclaimed Stewart.
“NPR, you just brought a tote bag full of David Sedaris books to a knife fight,” Stewart said.
“Fox wins that fight,” he concluded.
