Bill Maher needled GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich during an appearance Wednesday on CNN. Declaring his support for the U.S. intervention in Libya, the comedian said America has in the past failed to help nations when they’re in need of humanitarian assistance.
“We’re like Newt Gingrich — we leave you when you’re in trouble,” he told Eliot Spitzer.
Maher also knocked tea partyers: “The tea party, it’s supposed to be a party of the common man, a populist movement,” he said. “And yet, somehow, everything they want is also what Steve Forbes wants. I mean if your agenda is the same as a billionaire, you’re not really a populist movement.”
