Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) is known for being outspoken, but in a Wednesday interview with website The Real News he went a bit further in his criticism of President Barack Obama, arguing that he's more aligned with Republicans than Democrats on matters of deficit and spending.

"Frankly, we need to challenge the president," he said.

In a major speech Wednesday, President Obama put forward over $4 trillion in spending cuts aimed at reducing the deficit over the next 12 years. In contrast to Republicans, who he said wanted to "end Medicare as we know it," he pledged to maintain the public health program and raise taxes on the wealthy.

Kucinich has previously called for a Democrat to step up and challenge Obama for the Democratic Party's 2012 nomination to the presidency, but said he would not be the person to do it.
