'He wanted people to be killed': Morning Joe pinpoints damning evidence against Trump in Capitol riot
January 18, 2021
MSNBC's Joe Scarborough pointed to a key piece of evidence against President Donald Trump in the violent siege against the U.S. Capitol by his supporters.
The "Morning Joe" host said the president's lack of concern for Vice President Mike Pence's safety was particularly damning, especially when he had incited anger against his running mate for signaling that he would not try to overturn their election loss when Congress certified the electoral votes.
<p>"They were going around screaming, '<a data-linked-post="2649791644" href="https://www.rawstory.com/mike-pence-donald-trump-2649791644/" target="_blank">Hang the vice president</a>,'" Scarborough said. "Donald Trump was the one <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/what-trump-said-to-supporters-on-jan-6-before-their-capitol-riot-11610498173" target="_blank">inciting</a> them against the United States. Even though Mike Pence, his wife, and his children were trapped in the Capitol building while the rioters were going around screaming for Mike Pence's head, Trump never called him, never checked on him -- never did anything to try to protect Mike Pence and his family."</p><p>"That shows you again the state of this guy's mind while the rioting was going on," Scarborough added. "He wanted people to be hurt, and he wanted people to be killed. I don't know what other conclusion you draw for that when he knows, he incites people against the vice president. He's gleeful at the violence he sees on the TV according to Mike Pence and others around Donald Trump at the time. He knew his vice president's life was in danger, and he did nothing about it."<br/></p><p><br/></p><p class="shortcode-media shortcode-media-youtube">

The GOP has a plan to 'whitewash' their enabling of Donald Trump's presidency: report
January 18, 2021
The Republican Party reportedly has a plan to rid itself of the stain of Donald Trump's presidency: Pretend none of it ever happened.
The Atlantic's McKay Coppins reports that he has heard several Republican strategists in recent days talking about ways to erase the last four years from the public memory and carry on as though nothing out of the ordinary happened over that time.
<p>"We're about to see a whole political party do a large-scale version of 'New phone, who dis?'" Sarah Isgur, a former top spokesperson for the Trump Justice Department, tells Coppins. "It will be like that boyfriend you should never have dated—the mistake that shall not be mentioned."</p><p>GOP strategist Doug Heye similarly predicted that his party would soon be struck with collective amnesia.</p><p>"Republicans will want to forget the constant chaos, the lies, the double-dealing, the hiring of family, and the escalating rhetoric that incited hate for four years [and] directly led to what happened at the Capitol," he said. "Basically, any of those things that we never would have let an Obama or Clinton get away with, but constantly justified to ourselves in the name of judges."</p><p>According to Coppins, Republicans who worked with Trump are scheming of ways to "whitewash" the things they did on behalf of the president as a means to "escape accountability by taking advantage of America's notoriously short political memory."</p><p><a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2021/01/republicans-are-already-rewriting-trump-years/617715/" target="_blank">Read the whole report here</a>.</p>

Scarborough says GOP may have no choice on impeachment: ‘The longer this plays out the worse it looks for Donald Trump’
January 18, 2021
The longer Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell waits to hold the impeachment trial for outgoing President Donald Trump, the harder it may be for Republicans to acquit.
MSNBC's Joe Scarborough said new evidence comes almost daily linking the president to the Capitol riot, and the "Morning Joe" host said the Senate may be forced to convict Trump after he leaves office.
<p>"Ive been talking to several pretty well-played sources through the weekend," Scarborough said. "I've been talking to friends in journalism. They're all coming to the same conclusion about Mitch McConnell, saying we're not going to take this up in the next week or so. He was somehow trying to protect the president. It's taken some of us a little while but that's the last thing Mitch McConnell is doing."</p><p>"Mitch McConnell probably knew when he said he was going to delay it that the longer this plays out the worse it looks for Donald Trump," Scarborough added. "Here we are 11 days later and more <a href="https://apnews.com/article/election-2020-donald-trump-capitol-siege-campaigns-elections-d14c78d53b3a212658223252fec87e99" target="_blank">connections</a> are being revealed, and the longer this goes, the more Donald Trump is going to be attached directly to the rioting and the killing of these police officers."</p><p><br/></p><p class="shortcode-media shortcode-media-youtube">
