The Republican-led Minnesota state Senate passed a constitutional amendment Wednesday that would define marriage as solely between one man and one woman.
Democratic state Senator John Marty blasted the constitutional amendment on the Minnesota Senate floor, saying that his marriage was approved 2 to 0.
"Nobody else has a right to" vote on our marriage, Marty said. "This is not a matter for vote. That is what constitutions are for. To protect our liberties, to protect our freedom, to protect our choices."
"There is nothing more intrusive we can do than interfere in other people's marriages."
Last week, Minnesota state Senator Scott Simon said that a person's sexual orientation was a gift from God.
