North Texas last night was slammed with a series of funnel clouds that spun off from a violent thunderstorm.
As the heavy winds began sweeping through downtown Dallas, one cameraman stood on the 48th floor of the Thanksgiving Tower and filmed the cityscape as electric transformers exploded. He made the analogy that it looked like the city was being bombed — and was not kidding.
The Ft. Worth Star Telegram reported that while downtown Dallas was not hit by an actual tornado, high winds from funnel clouds buzzing overhead caused about 70,000 electric subscribers to lose power. Hail the size of tennis balls was also later found in the streets.
There were few reports of injuries save but for a police officer who was hospitalized after being struck by lightning. He was said to be in “good condition.”
