Bay area cop who killed Oscar Grant to be released Monday
Johannes Mehserle, the former Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) police officer who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of Oscar Grant on New Year’s Eve 2009, is due to be released from prison on Monday … And his victim’s family isn’t happy about it.
Video of the killing, which showed Mehserle shooting Grant as he lay face down on the pavement in handcuffs, went viral within hours of being posted online. Mehserle was sentenced to two years in prison after his defense claimed the shooting was accidental and he thought he was deploying a Taser.
