Maddow: Afghan drawdown is ‘no change in plans’
Last night, President Barack Obama announced that over 33,000 U.S. soldiers would be withdrawn from Afghanistan by the end of next summer, and at least 10,000 by the end of this year.
Though hyped as a significant drawdown, MSNBC’s liberal host Rachel Maddow gave it a bit of perspective, showing that even after the withdrawals troop levels won’t have gone down much over just three years ago.
“This is only to draw down the extra troops that President Obama sent in when we last heard from him on this subject in December 2009,” she said. “This is just drawing down the surge.”
