The Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. was opened to the public for the first time on Monday. The 4-acre memorial contains a 30 foot high granite statue of King and sits between the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials.

The dedication will take place on August 28, the anniversary of the March on Washington in which King delivered his famous "I have a dream" speech.
