Though it didn’t end with a guest leaving in the middle of an interview, Chris Matthew’s chat with Reince Priebus certainly contained its own fireworks.
On Hardball Friday evening, the MSNBC host interviewed the Republican National Committee chairman on his show for the first time. And passionate debate was not lacking in Priebus’ debut, which centered on Jon Huntsman’ tweet endorsing climate change and if the Republican Party preferred embracing “anti-intellectual” candidates.
Matthews repeatably asked Priebus to acknowledge the problems President Obama inherited from President Bush, along with explaining any difference between the GOP and the tea party. But the chairman decided to instead continue solely focusing on Obama’s record and not concede that Obama “walked into hell” as Matthews stated.
There was one area of agreement between the two, as Matthews asked Priebus if he believed Obama was a ‘patriotic American.’
“Of course,” said Priebus.
