A Democratic county official from New Jersey resigned last night after nude photos he took of himself became the subject of mainstream inquiry, having surfaced on a local GOP activist's website weeks earlier.
The photos allegedly came from a woman who Louis Magazzu, an attorney and Cumberland County freeholder, had corresponded with for "years," he confessed. She reportedly contacted Carl B. Johnson, the GOP activist, after area media declined to publicize the photos.
Johnson runs a website called Magazzu Watch, dedicated to opposition research on the Democratic politician following a property tax dispute the two men had years back.
Magazzu is reportedly in the process of a divorce and has been separated for about two years. He sent the photos in January, which Magazzu claims were requested.
“Unfortunately, in my personal life, I did not always demonstrate the wisdom and balance that I expected from myself, and that the people of Cumberland County deserve and have every right to expect,” he wrote Tuesday, in a letter announcing his resignation.
"I have retained counsel to determine what laws may have been broken by the unauthorized distribution of those pictures," Magazzu added. "No government services or equipment were used by me when taking the pictures or transmitting them to the woman in question."
