Kathleen Hanna's epic rant on Mike Watt's answering machine, which he then included on his record "Ballhog or Tugboat", blew my mind as a teenage girl. Nose-thumbing in all its forms impressed me, and especially this refusal to be impressed by rock star-age. Though, to be clear, Mike Watt has always personally struck me as a laid-back guy who is also not easily impressed with the pretensions of rock star-age. So, enjoy.
However, I didn't get the "Annie" thing then. I don't really think I ever will, not really.
