Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) called for the repeal of Senate Bill 5 on Monday during a speech at the AFL-CIO Labor Day Parade in Parma Heights, OH.

"Senate Bill 5 needs to be defeated," he said. "But not just defeated, it needs to be crushed."

The new law restricts the collective-bargaining rights of public employees. The pro-labor coalition We Are Ohio delivered nearly 1.3 million signatures to the Secretary of State's office in June to repeal it, placing the law on the November 8 ballot.

"And let me tell you," Kucinich continued," the fundamental rights in a democratic society are that workers must have a right to organize, must have a right to collective bargaining, must have a right to strike, must have a right to decent wages and benefits, must have a right to a secure retirement, and those rights are being taken away in this state of Ohio."
