A moose was discovered in the Swedish city of Gothenburg stuck in an apple tree several feet off the ground, The Daily Mail reported.

The animal was drunk after eating fermented apples that had fallen to the ground and attempted to climb the tree in search of more fruit, police theorized. That's when it became wedged in the branches, where it was discovered by a local man when he returned home from work. He called the police to report the animal.

"I thought at first that someone was having a laugh," he told a local paper. "Then I went over to take a look and spotted an elk stuck in an apple tree with only one leg left on the ground."

A neighbor said the same animal had almost run into her car earlier that day. She believed it was already intoxicated then.

When the moose was freed from the tree, it lay on the ground for a while and rested and recovered from its intoxication, according to the police.
