A Chinese man named Zhang Nan received a very unhappy ending during a recent trip to a spa: While sitting in a bath with live eels to cleanse his skin, an eel slithered up his urethra and all the way up into his bladder, UK newspaper Metro reported.
"I climbed into the bath and I could feel the eels nibbling my body. But then suddenly I felt a severe pain and realized a small eel had gone into the end of my penis," Nan told the paper. "I tried to hold it and take it out, but the eel was too slippery to be held and it disappeared up my penis."
The eel bath treatment is gaining in popularity as a skin treatment. The eels are supposed to eat dead skin, leaving the recipient exfoliated and clean.
Instead of being exfoliated, Nan was rushed to a hospital and operated on for three hours. The eel was dead by the time surgeons extracted it from the man's bladder.
The surgeon, Jin Wang, explained the mechanics of the accident.
"The diameter of the urethra in a man's penis is just a little narrower, but because eels are quite slippery, its body worked as a lubricant and so it got into the penis smoothly," he said.
