Trumka: Chances are AFL-CIO will endorse Obama for 2012
Richard Trumka, president of the largest federation of unions in the U.S., said Tuesday on MSNBC that the AFL-CIO would probably endorse President Barack Obama in 2012.
“President Obama has been a friend for us,” Trumka said.
He previously threatened to withdraw the AFL-CIO’s attendance at the upcoming Democratic convention if the party didn’t take a more aggressive stance towards job creation.
Trumka said that “chances are” the AFL-CIO executive council will officially endorse Obama.
“What we need from him to make that happen, and to get the energy level up and get the enthusiasm of working people up — whether they’re union or not union — is to lead [during his speech] this Thursday, show people he is serious about creating jobs, give us a bold proposal and be aggressive about it.”
