Donald Trump "cherry-picks" out-of-context quotes from Judge Chutkan in order to justify his effort to get her to recuse herself, Special Counsel Jack Smith said in a Thursday night filing.
Trump was indicted in Washington D.C. in connection with his purportedly unlawful efforts to overturn the results of the election in 2020. He has since then railed against Smith, as well as against Chutkan and the region itself.
Trump previously sought to get Chutkan to recuse herself from the case, pointing to vague statements made about Trump in other Jan. 6-related cases.
POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?
Now, Smith has filed a reply to Trump's request. The news comes from a reporter named Brandi Buchman.
"Special Counsel Jack Smith responds to Donald Trump's motion to recuse Judge Chutkan: there is no 'valid reason' to recuse Judge Chutkan," Buchman wrote, adding more quotes from the government filing. "'Wrong recusal standard' Defendant 'cherrypicks' 'Manufactures allegations out of bias.'"
The filing itself makes the argument that Chutkan was merely responding to Jan. 6 defendants' claims that Trump himself was responsible for their aggressive behaviors.
"There is no valid basis," Smith writes, for Chutkan "to disqualify herself in this proceeding."
"The Court's statements addressing this sentencing mitigation argument were factually accurate, responsive to arguments presented to the Court, and evidence no improper bias or prejudgment of the current case," the filing states.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Thursday evening announced a plan to make sure Democrats "lose big" in impeachment inquiry proceedings, even if the evidence never allows the GOP to actually impeach Biden.
The lawmaker, who has recently feuded with her own Republican colleagues over the question of impeaching the current president, said the plan is to drag out the proceedings over an extended period of time, allowing the allegations Republicans make to play out before the general public watching at home.
Greene disclosed the plan on her social media account:
POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?
"We are going to drag Biden and everyone who covered up his crimes through the headlines day after day, month after month, and prove to the country the entire Democrat party is corrupt and can’t be trusted. So no matter which candidate runs for president if they take Biden out, everyone will know the Democrat party is filled with liars and traitors. That, combined with Bidenomics’ destructive policies, will cause Democrats to lose big."
Greene also posted the plan to her Truth Social account, where it was shared by Trump himself.
Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) recently denied being kicked out of a Beetlejuice performance at Denver's Buell Theater for refusing to quit vaping near a pregnant woman. A new video appears to show that's exactly what happened.
It was reported on Tuesday that Boebert had been ejected from a performance of the "Beetlejuice" musical in downtown Denver after causing a disturbance. Later, a report suggested Boebert was asked to leave after she failed to stop vaping near a woman who was pregnant who had been asking for the lawmaker to stop.
Boebert's office reportedly denied that allegation.
POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?
Now, video of the interaction has been released by 9NEWS Denver reporters. It appears to corroborate allegations against the lawmaker.
