South Korea’s ruling party agreed on a trade deal with the United States Tuesday, causing one angry opposition lawmaker to throw tear gas at his political rivals.
Video has emerged of the extraordinary incident after a surprise vote was called by the ruling Grand National Party, according to the Irish new website TheJournal. Lawmakers voted 151 to 7 to ratify the deal.
The pact is America’s biggest free trade agreement since 1994’s North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) with Mexico and Canada.
This isn’t the first time South Korea’s parliament has witnessed a wild scene however. Debating the same U.S. free trade deal in 2008, opposition lawmakers used a sledgehammer to force themselves into a committee room to shut down the talks.
