Vandals leave Reagan statue leaning left

    David Edwards
    November 07, 2011

A larger-than-life statue of former U.S. President Ronald Reagan has been removed from Bonita Canyon Sports Park in Newport Beach, California after it was damaged by vandals.

The crooks attempted to steal the bronze statue using a chain and truck, according to Newport Beach police. City crews have since removed the statue because it was leaning forward and to the left.

"Either someone really didn't like Reagan or they tried to steal it so they can sell it for scrap metal," police Sgt. Kirk Jacobi explained.

A witness told police that the failed thief was seen driving off in a tan pickup truck with an extended cab.

The statue was dedicated on Oct. 9 in honor of Reagan's 100th birthday.

    Matthew Chapman

In particular, she made clear that she is intending to celebrate if, as experts broadly believe, Trump is indicted.

Why we can’t let the Bush/Cheney war lies go down the memory hole

    Thom Hartmann
    March 21, 2023
Yesterday was the 20th anniversary of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney’s war against Iraq, which followed their illegal invasion of Afghanistan just a bit more than a year earlier.

Given the costs of both these wars — and the current possibility of our being drawn deeper into conflict in both Ukraine and Taiwan — it’s an important moment to discuss our history of wars, both illegal and unnecessary and those that are arguably essential to the survival of democracy in the world.

To be clear, I support US involvement — and even an expanded US involvement — in the defense of the Ukrainian democracy against Putin’s Hitler-grabs-Poland-like attack and mass slaughter of Ukrainian civilians. Had the world mobilized to stop Hitler when he invaded Poland in 1939 there almost certainly wouldn’t have been either the Holocaust or WWII, which is why Europe is so united in this effort.

    March 21, 2023

A body found in a container this month in Northwest Baltimore has been identified as a 75-year-old woman who was first reported missing last year, CBS News reported.

Versey Spell was reported missing in October of 2022 after she disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Her family says they found Spell's doors forced open with her house in disarray and a strange woman in her bed. Many of Spell's personal and health-related items were still in the home, including her cane and walker.
