Emboldened by Donald Trump dropping out of the Newsmax GOP debate, Stephen Colbert made certain to plug his own debate again Tuesday evening.
Hearing the billionaire withdrew from moderating because of his urge to still run as an independent candidate for president, Colbert gave his usual, animated opinion on Trump.
"As an independent, I don't know," he said. "I say he should run in the Republican party, although it might make more sense if he ran as a whig."
With Trump out of the debate business, Colbert made sure to remind his audience that he was firmly still in it.
"It will be bigger than ever with Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich free from their commitment to Trump," he said. "You still have a time in my debate boys. I am excited about Newt, I am less delighted about Santorum. But still, solid delight across the board."
