Dasher wins first-ever reindeer race in England
In the first-ever reindeer race in England this weekend, Dasher — who took part in the race with Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen — took home the prize of a carrot-filled trophy.
The race, which was part of the Kepmton Park Racecourse Winter Festival and sponsored by the off-track betting company William Hill, also featured Father Christmas as the official race-starter and was cheered by a team of elves. Observers were, of course, allowed to bet on the outcome.
William Hill spokesperson Kate Miller called the race a “roaring success,” according to UPI, and added “December can be an inclement month weather-wise, with many race meetings lost to the elements. Reindeer racing could prove a lifeline for race-starved [bettors] in the future.” If it is, it’ll probably also prove fairly lucrative for companies like William Hill.
