A 7-year-old Australian girl says she thought she was going to die when a kangaroo attacked her on New Year’s Day.
Makayla McEvoy recalled that a kangaroo pinned her to the ground and kicked her while she was playing at a campsite near Cowra, leaving her covered with bruises and scratches.
“I thought I was going to die,” she said. “All I could see was grey, grey, grey.”
Makayla’s mother, Emma, told Central Western Daily that she just “just froze with fear” when she saw the attack.
Stepfather Mitch McGovern, however, reacted quickly to save the girl.
“As I jumped over the top of Makayla to get rid of the kangaroo, all I could see was she was laying, sort of, face down on the ground with her shirt was all ripped, and her back was cut,” he explained. “There was no noise, I thought the worst.”
The attack hasn’t discouraged the 7-year-old from her ambition to one day be a veterinarian.
Grey kangaroos can weigh as much as 145 lbs and grow as tall 9 ft.

WATCH: Republican fumes at House hearing after being accused of not reading the Mueller report
House Democrats continue to investigate wrongdoing by the Trump campaign and administration that was revealed in the Mueller probe -- despite failing to pursue official impeachment proceedings.
That has not made the president's supporters very happy, as they continue to falsely claim that the Mueller report completely exonerates President Trump.
Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) thanked his constituents for showing up before going on an angry rant at Republicans who are eager to downplay the findings of the Russia probe.
"They have to see what I have to put up with. Week after week after week," Cohen said.
Whoopi Goldberg scorches McConnell for obstructing Obama: ‘Maybe you should pay reparations for that!’
Whoopi Goldberg shamed Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell for claiming the sins of slavery had been repaid with the election of President Barack Obama.
McConnell disagreed with reparations for slavery, lynching, discrimination and other racist institutions, saying the Civil War and Obama's election should be enough -- and "The View" host called out his hypocrisy.
"You know, Mitch, you said that you would make him a one-term president," Goldberg said, "and you did everything you could to not help him in the first four years. Maybe you should pay reparation for that."
Goldberg argued that black work and wealth had been stolen for centuries, and she said racism was much bigger than anything President Donald Trump -- whose name she never says -- and the Republican Party had done.

An incident in which Phoenix police threatened to kill a black family over an allegedly stolen doll has sparked outrage in the community.
Protesters have demanded that the officers be fired and that the $721 million budget for police should be held until that happens, the Washington Post reported.
In response, Phoenix councilman Sal DiCiccio chided protestors in a video flagged by News One.
