MSNBC, CNN, and even Fox News would have been hard pressed to top Stephen Colbert's coverage of the Iowa caucuses Tuesday evening.

In his return from the New Year, the Comedy Central host expressed his excitement over the Hawkeye State taking center stage.

"It is the Super Bowl of old midwestern people sitting in a high school gym sitting in folding chairs," he said. "And no one is on this story like I am tonight. I am brining you every corner of the state, the most compete coverage I can get from free webcams."

Colbert also praised Rick Santorum's choice of attire as a key reason for his late surge in the state.

"Fear the vest," he said. "In Iowa, that look is fierce."

"Plus, we all know throughout history electoral power has hinged on partial coverage torso clothing. Remember Eisenhower's cummerbund, Woodrow Wilson's rainbow suspenders and Theodore Roosevelt's tube top?"
