An Iranian man was severely maimed in Thailand on Tuesday after attempting to attack police with a bomb, only to have it explode in front of him, blowing off one of his legs.

An initial explosion detonated in the home he was renting, which attracted police attention. He then reportedly tried to flag a taxi, but no drivers would pick him up because he was covered in blood. When he became frustrated at the situation, he reportedly lobbed a bomb at one vehicle.

The third bomb, however, was not the attacker's lucky charm: lobbing a grenade at nearby police, it bounced back and detonated near his leg. Four people were injured.

A passport later discovered placed the man's identity as Saeid Moradi, of Iran.
