Alice Walker, the author of The Color Purple and activist, participated in a panel celebrating the 75th anniversary of the publication on Zora Neale Hurston's Their Eyes Were Watching God. At the event sponsored by the The Jerome L. Greene Performance Space at WNYC and WQXR, Walker, actress Ruby Dee and poet Sonia Sanchez read from Hurston and spoke about her effects on their own lives.
Walker helped revive interest in Thurston's work after publishing an article in Ms. in 1975 called, "In Search of Zora Neale Hurston" about her search with Hurston scholar Charlotte D. Hunt for the unmarked grave of the author.
