Santorum ‘does not care’ about the unemployment rate

Published

on

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum said in Illinois on Monday that he was not concerned about the unemployment rate because it wasn’t the government’s duty to create jobs.

“We need a candidate who’s going to be a fighter for freedom,” he said during a campaign speech, “who is going to get up and make that the central theme in this race because it is the central theme in this race.”

“I don’t care what the unemployment rate’s going to be,” he continued. “Doesn’t matter to me. My campaign doesn’t hinge on unemployment rates and growth rates. It’s something more foundational that’s going on. We have one nominee who says he wants to run the economy. What kind of conservative says that the president runs the economy? What conservative says I’m the guy, because of my economic experience, that can create jobs?”

“I don’t know. We conservatives generally think that government doesn’t create jobs. That what government does is create an atmosphere for jobs to be created in the private sector.”

Santorum continued to attack Mitt Romney in his speech, saying Romney’s health care plan in Massachusetts was the basis of “Obamacare.”

Ex-Bush aide says Trump falls back on racism because he’s losing his mind: ‘Take him to Walter Reed for a full medical’

MSNBC contributor Elise Jordan said President Donald Trump was stuck peddling racism because he's losing his mental faculties.

The former speechwriter and National Security Council staffer in George W. Bush's administration said Trump's attack on four Democratic congresswomen betrayed his inherent racism, and showed that he's mentally diminished.

"I think you're being a little bit too charitable regarding Donald Trump having an actual strategy in the first place," Jordan told "Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough. "I think that this is who he is -- he's racist."

"You have seen it, you know, his entire career," she continued, "whether it's calling for five young black men who are innocent to be executed. you see it in his comments consistently throughout the course of his campaign wanting to ban an entire religion from entering the country, and just this week the horrible remarks that, you know, an elected official -- elected by her fellow countrymen and women should be grateful to be in the country and should leave otherwise."

MSNBC’s Morning Joe drops the hammer on Trump’s ‘mob’: A ‘new level of racism’

Published

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough said President Donald Trump believes the four Democratic congresswomen he's been attacking aren't capable of being fully American because they're not white.

The "Morning Joe" host said Trump's recent attacks on those first-year lawmakers had followed a familiar pattern, but Scarborough warned the president had taken those racist provocations to a new level by suggesting that people of color aren't capable of loving their country.

"They're not white," Scarborough said. "Clearly, (he) is suggesting (because) they're not white, they're foreign, even though they're not, and also, very interesting in that press conference -- that presser when the president said, 'They're just lucky to be where they are.' That's Donald Trump saying, you know what? Given that they're women and they're from Somalia or from wherever, Detroit, from Cincinnati, regardless, they're just lucky to be where they are."
