A highway construction sign in Dearborn, Michigan was hacked on Sunday night to display a racist message about Trayvon Martin.
Police told local news crews that an investigation was ongoing, but they have no idea who managed to break into a Michigan Department of Transportation road construction sign along Interstate 94 on Sunday night.
The sign read "TRAYVON A N*GGER" for approximately one hour, before state workers were called out. They ultimately disabled the sign once it was discovered that the hacker had stolen an internal keyboard used to control it.
Police are asking for anyone with information about the incident to come forward and aid the investigation. Unfortunately, unless someone has specific knowledge of the incident or its perpetrator, they could be impossible to find.
Many prior roadway sign hacking incidents have gone unpunished, although this would seem to be the first time the relatively simple hack has been used to promote racial hatred.
