Student protesters in the Canadian city of Montreal, Quebec encountered major pushback from city police Friday afternoon in their ongoing protests against tuition hikers.
Police disperse tear gas on the students, who were on 68th day of boycotting classes to protest tuition fee hikes, in what is considered the strongest confrontation since the strike began. Students wanted to send a message to Quebec Premier Jean Charest about his economic plans, but the government has refused to change its position on the budget, indicating that students need to pay more.
Friday's clashes led to 17 people arrested, with six injured including four police officers.
