Sanford, Florida police chief Bill Lee is expected to resign Monday afternoon according to CNN, hours after Trayvon Martin shooter George Zimmerman was released from prison on bail.

Lee temporarily removed himself from his position last month after facing criticism for not arresting Zimmerman on the night of the shooting on February 26.

“While I stand by the Sanford Police Department, its personnel and the investigation that was conducted in regards to the Trayvon Martin case, it is apparent that my involvement in the matter is overshadowing the process,” Lee said. “Therefore, I have come to the decision that I must temporarily remove myself from the position as police chief of the city of Sanford.”
