Stewart asks top astrophysicist if asteroid mining is bulls**t

On Wednesday night’s edition of “The Daily Show,” host Jon Stewart took a break from the endless cycle of Republican primary election coverage to look at a news story that appeals to the sci-fi geek in all of us, asteroid mining.
A group of billionaires, including tech executives and pioneers of space exploration have announced that they are launching a company to mine asteroids for precious materials.  The story is exciting for a number of reasons, not the least of which is, as Stewart says, the fact that it’s so rare that we see and hear news “that looks and sounds like you thought the news would look and sound in 2012.”
Stewart welcomed astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson for a segment called “Bullshit or No Bullshit with Neil deGrasse Tyson.”  The world’s most famous astrophysicist (name two others, we dare you) stood there calmly solving a Rubik’s cube as he delivered his verdict on the concept of asteroid mining, which was, “Asteroid mining: no bullshit.”
