Daily Show host Jon Stewart ripped into Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) on Thursday for claiming Huma Abedin, a deputy chief of staff to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and wife of former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY), was connected to the Muslim Brotherhood, a radical Islamist group.

Bachmann on Wednesday ran from CNN cameras as correspondent Dana Bash asked her about her accusations that Abedin was infiltrating the U.S. government on behalf of the radical Islamists.

Stewart joked that Bachmann was like the bus in the movie Speed.

“If she slows down too much, her mouth explodes with stupidity.”

Stewart then showed how even Bachmann was connected to Muslim terrorists.

“The name Bachmann is also the name of a company that makes pretzels," he explained. "The very snack complicit in the failed 2002 assassination attempt on George W. Bush, when he choked on a Bachman pretzel. If that assassination had succeeded, it would have prevented Bush from invading Iraq and killing Saddam Hussein, though, who unconnected to the 9/11 terrorists, went to war with a country whose border also touches the country the 9/11 attacks were launched from."

But Stewart realized there was an even less specious link between Bachmann and Muslim terrorists. Bachmann has received campaign contributions from the global banking giant HSBC, which was recently revealed to be enmeshed in a huge laundering scandal. The bank reportedly provided services to those raising funds for terrorist organizations, including al Qaeda.

“Maybe there should be an investigation,” he said.
