A murder suspect from Colorado climbed over an airport fence at night, boarded a jet plane, and crashed into a fence before killing himself, federal law enforcement authorities said.

Forty-year-old Brian Hedglin boarded the unlocked SkyWest Airlines regional jet at an airport in southwest Utah and tried to take off. But he clipped the wing of another plane and veered off-course, slamming through a wire fence and into a parking lot.

He was a licensed, but suspended, SkyWest pilot.

After crashing into the fence, Hedglin fatally shot himself.

He was wanted by authorities for the murder of his ex-girlfriend.
